Serving the community by protecting our companion animals

Don’t breed or buy while homeless animals die. Most puppies and kittens we rescue are quickly adopted, but adult dogs and cats are in less demand—even though they are easier to live with, already socialized, and eager to please. Our rescues have been treated for parasites, spayed/neutered, vaccinated against common serious diseases, and behavior- assessed. To qualify for adopting a rescued dog or cat from Amigos, you must present proof of your residence and describe the living conditions you intend to offer the animal. You must also authorize representatives of Amigos to visit your home from time to time to confirm that the animal is being treated well and to remove the animal if they judge that it would be in the animal’s best interest. Taking a dog or cat to the US or Canada is surprisingly easy. If you live outside Mexico and want to adopt one of our rescues, we will help you with the paperwork, lend you a traveling crate, and help you check in at the León International Airport.

Flaco (“Skinny”) was near death from starvation when we found him on the street in November. Here he is with Amigos board member Sandra Ward three weeks later, still thin but now beautiful—and very affectionate. He’s possibly a Doberman mix, 2 years old, and currently weighing 20 kilos (45 lbs.), which is approaching his proper weight. Dog-trainer Julia Salido and her two active young children have been fostering him. Flaco is playful and well-behaved, although he fears some men and occasionally defends his food bowl from other dogs. He needs a forever home where he can be active. He will bond quickly with a loving family.
