Serving the community by protecting our companion animals
Mission
We strive to reduce the suffering of homeless, neglected, and
abused dogs and cats in the municipality of Guanajuato,Mexico.
We focus on
education, rescue, and spay/neuter.
By improving the animals’ welfare, we also help protect the
health and safety of the community.

Why we exist
In the city of Guanajuato and its surrounding villages are
hundreds of dogs and cats living on the streets. Many of
them have owners but are compelled to live outdoors.
Some dogs spend their lives chained or isolated on
rooftops. The street animals are exposed to cold and rain,
hot sun, hunger, thirst, the occasional kick or thrown rock,
and the risk of being injured or killed by motorists or
captured by animal control personnel. Many are ill with
contagious diseases that can be transmitted to the human
population. Amigos de los Animales was formed to combat
the ignorance, indifference, and cruelty that cause these
animals’ suffering.

Who we are
Amigos de los Animales de Guanajuato was established in
2002 as a voluntary, nonprofit association in Guanajuato,
the capital of the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. Our volunteer
board of directors works closely with city and state health
authorities and with other volunteers to increase public
awareness of the needs of companion animals and to
promote responsible pet stewardship.
Our US counterpart organization, Amigos de los Animales
de Guanajuato, Inc., in the State of New York, is a nonprofit

as a 501(3)c humanitarian organization.
