Dr. Luis Arturo Rocha Bravo began performing surgeries at our sterilization campaigns in 2018. His wife, Dr. Verónica Elizabeth Almaguer Olvera, joined our sterilization team in 2019. She prepares the animals for surgery and administers anesthesia. Along with Dr. Ricardo Montes de Oca, they have been instrumental in improving the quality of our sterilization campaigns, which are held twice a month on weekends, usually Sundays.
During weekdays Arturo is a veterinarian at the Centro de Control y Bienestar Animal (Animal Control and Wellbeing Center) in the city of León. Verónica has worked at a private clinic and on a ranch. Her current day job is at SENASICA, or Servicio Nacional de Sanidad, Inocuidad y Calidad Agroalimentaria (National Service for Agricultural Food Health, Safety, and Quality) located at the Bajío International Airport. There, she issues health certificates for products and by-products of animal origin for export, such as chewable accessories, skins, dairy products, and also pets that travel to other countries. Each year they attend the Veterinary Congress in León to learn about advances in veterinary medicine.
Arturo grew up in Silao, half an hour from Guanajuato, where he and his wife and children live today. He attended the University of La Salle, Bajío Campus, in León, graduating with a degree in veterinary medicine in 1999. Verónica, who’s from León, also studied veterinary medicine at La Salle Bajío, where the two of them met in 1997. She received her degree in 2005. They have two children, Vania Itzel (18) and José Mateo (5). The family enjoys watching sports and traveling, especially to the beach.
Arturo’s main satisfaction as a veterinarian is participating in sterilization clinics in various cities and states around Mexico. Verónica, whose favorite animals are cats and dogs, is glad that she has been able to help our patients at the sterilization campaigns. She has observed that their owners appreciate our efforts to improve their pets’ lives by preventing them from continuing to reproduce.
