Mariana Gómez Grobet was 15 when her family moved from Guanajuato to Mexico City. She and her family love animals. They had two German shepherds while living here, whom she loved deeply, but unfortunately the family had to leave them behind. The dogs stayed with the American couple who bought her family’s house, who gave them the love they needed, and Mariana is eternally grateful for this.
In 2002, when she learned that the American couple were involved in starting Amigos de los Animales de Guanajuato, she decided to support our organization. It kept her connected to her childhood home and enabled her to help improve the lives of dogs and cats like those she remembered from her childhood.
Since earning a degree in international commerce, Mariana has pursued a career in the insurance sector, working in multinational insurance and reinsurance companies. Today, she is a vice president of a multinational company, currently in charge of energy and power generation programs, coordinating the strategy for accounts in that sector.
For Mariana, Amigos has always been a priority. Over the years she has made a donation to Amigos each month. She has also stayed in touch with us, occasionally visiting Guanajuato, and has even participated in two of our sterilization campaigns. We are extremely grateful to her for her loyal and generous support.
She still looks for ways to help those, like dogs and cats, who have no voice, aware that we humans are the only ones who can protect and defend them from mistreatment. “[Amigos co-founder] Sandra Ward taught me that with a little help we can do great things. She has been a great example for me.”
Nicolás, Mariana’s 9-year-old pug, has been a fundamental part of her life since he was 7 months old. Adopting him was easy because of his friendly and sociable character. When he was a puppy, she called him the iPhone, because after sleeping for just 20 minutes, he was recharged and ready to continue making mischief.
Mariana still misses the place where she grew up. Some of her best memories are of “that beautiful place, my Guanajuato!”
