Liz Carranza joins Amigos board of directors

María Isabel Carranza Arrellano, known to her Friends as Liz, joined the Amigos board of directors at our annual meeting on April 1, assuming the position of secretary. The other board members are Tom Reavley, president; Suzy Thompson, Vice President; Joslyn Lewis, treasurer, and members at large Rosemarie Conde, Saul Helfenbein, Bill Merrell, Julia Salido, and Sandra Ward; Dr. Eduardo Romero Hicks, honorary board member; and Nancy Hager, U.S. corporate secretary.

Liz spent her early years in Mexico City but has lived in the city of Guanajuato for 30 years. She taught nutrition at the Iberoamericana University in León and worked briefly for the University of Guanajuato. During her professional career she directed international programs for several foreign universities, including Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and Gateway College in Norway.

Liz has also been active in social organizations that support children and women in situations of poverty and violence. Among her accomplishments was founding the shelter for families of patients at Guanajuato’s General Hospital. Over the past year she has been a frequent Amigos volunteer.

In her new role, Liz will help us expand our contacts with the Mexican community and plan our fundraising activities.

Liz has three grown children who are pursuing professional careers and three happy dogs rescued from the street–Mila, Luna, and Príncipe.
