Meet Bianca, our 25,000th pet sterilization!

, ,

Bianca, a 2-1/2-year-old mixed-breed female dog, became our 25,000th sterilization case on May 26 at the Centro Social in Las Teresas. This was a major milestone in our mission to promote responsible pet care.

Bianca belongs to Carmen Rangel of Las Teresas, to whom Julia Salido, Amigos campaign manager, presented a certificate recognizing her dog’s special status. Bianca also received a bag of dog treats, to begin enjoying when fully recovered from her surgery after a few days.

The 25,000th sterilization took place during our tenth sterilization campaign this year and our 422nd campaign since 2001. We conduct an average of two campaigns per month in the city of Guanajuato and its surrounding villages. The service is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Pet owners are asked to donate 150 pesos ($9 USD), but those unable to pay receive the service free.

“We are proud to celebrate this significant milestone, which reflects the tireless efforts and dedication by our entire team,” said Thomas Reavley, Amigos president. “By providing accessible sterilization services and promoting responsible pet care, we are reducing pet overpopulation and improving the welfare of companion animals in our municipality. We’re also improving the lives of humans in and around Guanajuato by reducing the numbers of animals forced to live on the streets.”

We are grateful to Julia Salido, our campaign manager, and to our veterinarians, Drs. Verónica Almaguer, Sandra Hernández, Ricardo Montes de Oca, and Arturo Rocha, for their dedication to the sterilization program. We also thank all those who have supported our mission over the past 22 years, including our many volunteers, our donors, and community members.
