We invited the public to a Meet & Greet Amigos event at Foro Cultural 81 on the 21st to learn about us. Some avid animal advocates showed up, much to our delight. After enjoying drinks and botanas, everyone settled into the Foro’s auditorium for a brief presentation.
Tom Reavley, our president, showed a 3-minute video of a typical sterilization campaign, produced by one of our volunteers, Victoria Larrazolo. Liz Carranza, our secretary, talked briefly about our mission (sterilization and education) and then introduced our two experts in those areas, Julia Salido and Antonia (Tony) López.
Julia, our sterilization campaign manager, briefly described the planning and work that goes into conducting a sterilization campaign, which we do twice a month. She mentioned that Niña, our dear old van, used to transport our equipment and supplies to the campaign sites, is on her last legs and needs to retire.
Tony, our education specialist, briefly described the ways we encourage adults and children to treat their pets responsibly and respect all animals, particularly those in need of homes.
Then Tom concluded our presentation by saying that although we are recognized by the Mexican government as a non-profit organization, we receive no governmental support, and that none of our work could be achieved without the support of our donors and volunteers. He answered questions, thanked our hosts and our guests for coming, and invited them to chat with our board members while enjoying refreshments.
Our principal goal in presenting this event was to engage some new volunteers. We succeeded! Several folks from our Meet & Greet showed up at our sterilization campaign the very next day to offer their services, and one even brought a piggy bank full of money as a donation! You too are invited to participate in any of our activities in whatever way you feel comfortable.
Our grateful thanks to Ed O’Connor, Sal Liriano, Tom Settel, and Alonso Villanueva of Foro Cultural for their hospitality.
