On October 12 we sterilized 58 animals (14 female dogs, 17 male dogs, 22 female cats, and 5 male cats). This took place in Guanajuato Silver, near Mellado. It is encouraging that so many male dogs were neutered as they are responsible for impregnating females.
As a bonus, Dr. Montes de Oca sterilized seven more animals the next day in his office, six dogs (3 males and 3 females) and one female cat.

Amigos is always concerned about the safety of our clients, the pets. Therefore, doctors and volunteers who have direct contact with the animals in the surgical and recovery units are now wearing face masks and hair coverings.
We moved to the other side of town for our second clinic of the month on October 26. It took place at a salón de fiestas in Puentecillas.
Three veterinary students from the Veterinary School of the University of Guanajuato came to this campaign to do a study. They collected blood samples from 50 animals to determine whether they had rickettsia. They found many ticks and fleas, which are carriers of the disease. Rickettsia can be transmitted to humans and pose a serious health threat. The students were Fátima Ramírez Jaime, Dulce Alano Sara Serrano Moreno, and Sergio Uriel Gutiérrez Velázquez.
A total of 62 pets were sterilized at this campaign (20 female dogs, 9 male dogs, 26 female cats, and 7 male cats). As one of the vets was not feeling well for a couple of hours, the other two doctors, Ricardo and Abril, really stepped up the pace so we could provide service to all the animals.
We asked a few clients about their pets.

Pedro said a friend of his found these two dogs in the street and gave them to him. He loves their company and how enthusiastic they are when he returns home.

Iván told us that Canela is six months old and a friend of his at work gave her to his daughter. Iván follows Amigos on Facebook and previously adopted a Husky from the organization.

Yvonne and Martín brought four feral cats to be sterilized. They have 16 cats at home! Ten are theirs and six are rescues that people brought to them. They think Amigos is incredible.

This is Magic being weighed with help from volunteer Tony López. Magic is about four years old, and her owners decided to have her fixed because she was always sad when her puppies were taken from her. She was, in fact, pregnant when she arrived at the campaign. The owner says she is very playful and loves to run.

Volunteer Vero Mares had her hands full shaving this big boy.

This one-week-old kitten was abandoned and needs feeding every three hours. Volunteer Mía del Angel took it home and found a home for her/him. (The gender of young kittens is difficult to determine.) The kitty will stay with Mía for a few weeks, until weaned.

This little guy is happily waiting his turn.

These two might not be friends if they were awake but are peacefully awaiting their surgery.

Doctors Sandra Hernández and Abril Herrera were kept busy operating.

Here Doctor Ricardo Montes de Oca was sterilizing a cat.

Our clients are always very patient.
We thank the team, which is headed by Julia Salido and veterinarians Sandra Hernández, Abril Herrera, and Ricardo Montes de Oca.
Volunteers included Karla Ahumada, Julie Boyles, Mary Beth Canavan, Rosemarie Conde, Fran Espinosa, Joel Gaitan, Diana Paulina García, Mía del Ángel Gutiérrez Rangel, Adhán Alberto Mata López, Beth Lozano, Vero Mares, Andrea Martín Muñoz, and Tony López.
