Two sterilization campaigns
We held our last two sterilization campaigns of the year on November 30 and on December 21. The campaign on November 30 took place at the Gymnasium SportMin in Santa Teresa. There we sterilized 43 dogs and cats—15 female dogs, 7 male dogs, 10 female cats, and 11 male cats. Although we had only two surgeons at the campaign, all went well. One of our veterinarians, Dr. Ricardo Montes de Oca, sterilized an additional 7 animals (2 female dogs, 4 female cats, and a male cat) at his clinic on December 7.

The last campaign of the year took place on December 21 at the home of Nan Niemela in the village of La Trinidad, where we sterilized 58 animals—41 female dogs, 6 male dogs, 8 female cats, and 3 male cats, bringing our total number of cases for the year to 1,485.

Nan’s home is ideal for campaigns because of its large yard and spacious interior. The open layout on the ground floor makes it easy to move animals from one stage of the campaign to another. Nan even set up a tent with folding chairs for pet owners while they waited for their pets to be sterilized. Others relaxed in the sun.

During the December 21 campaign, we celebrated our Volunteer of the Year. (See the first article of this issue). All in all, it was a festive occasion.
Education event
On December 4 our two teaching specialists, Tony López and Julia Salido, participated in an educational event in the village of Cañada de Bustos sponsored by the city of Guanajuato’s Health Center. They showed 10 children how to play our expanded board game of chance based on the popular game of Snakes and Ladders, gave them copies of our educational coloring books, and talked with them and their parents about pets’ needs and our responsibilities toward them.

Thank you and happy New Year!
Our grateful thanks to all those who made 2025 a successful year for us: our campaign manager and volunteers, our veterinarians, our educators, and you who supported us with your donations and your help with our fundraising activities. On behalf of our furry friends, our board wishes all of you a very happy, healthy, and peaceful New Year.
