As always, we’ve had a busy month

On Saturday, November 1, Dr. Ricardo Montes de Oca, held a workshop for our sterilization campaign volunteers. Space for the workshop was provided by Tony López. After presenting statistics about pet overpopulation in Guanajuato and stressing the importance of sterilization in addressing the problem, Ricardo discussed several ways to improve the treatment of pets brought to our campaigns.

Our first sterilization campaign of the month took place on Sunday, November 9, at Hotel Camino a Guanajuato in Valenciana.  We sterilized 62 animals—26 female dogs, 5 male dogs, 23 female cats, and 8 male cats, bringing our total for the year to 1,377.

On Saturday afternoon, November 22, board members threw a party for our veterinarians, campaign manager Julia Salido, and campaign volunteers to thank them for their hard work over the past year. The party took place at the home of Ron Mann and Sandra Ward. Carmen Catering served delicious Mexican stews (guisados), and Amigos board members provided homemade desserts. Our sterilization team members received Amigos tee shirts and decals as tokens of our appreciation.

The next day, November 23, our two education specialists, Tony López and Julia Salido, had an exhibition at the annual Corre Con Tu Perro (Run With Your Dog) event held sponsored by Fundación Corazón Animal. They offered games and coloring books for kids, plus educational materials for adults.

Our board’s monthly meeting, on November 3, was held at Sandra Ward’s home, and our second sterilization campaign is taking place today, November 30, at the Gymnasium SportMin in Santa Teresa.

But that’s not all! Also during the month Jim Sullivan, our technical expert, updated our website, and Joslyn Lewis, our treasurer-cum-artist, posted four educational messages on our Facebook page.
