    In 2023 we exceeded the number of sterilizations in each of the four previous years, trained three veterinary students in rapid sterilization techniques, formally launched our children’s education program, participated in several events focusing on pets, began giving bimonthly interviews on Guanajuato’s local television channel, expanded our social media presence, and ended the year in financial good health.     Our New Year is off and running

    Our New Year is off and running

    It’s been a busy month for us. We have new educational messages on the backs of two city buses. Our planning committee for the annual Amigos Fiesta next month has been busy preparing for the event. Our education team visited a center for youth in Santa Teresa and participated in three interviews on a local TV channel. We held our first two sterilization campaigns of the year. Our board of directors met to continue planning our activities for the year. And we held a reception for our major donors to express our appreciation of their support. Read more

    Our mission to address pet overpopulation

    Amigos de los Animales focuses on helping pet owners control their pets’ fertility by offering low-cost sterilization services to the Guanajuato community. On December 10 we sterilized 79 animals at our 23rd campaign of the year, achieving a total of 1,440 sterilizations during 2023. Read more

    During October our volunteers participated in Fundación Corazón Animal’s annual Run with Your Dog event, we began displaying new educational messages on the backs of two city buses, our team sterilized 73 dogs and cats a two campaigns, and two of our volunteers organized three educational events for children and gave two interviews on local TV Channel 8.     Amigos volunteers prepared lots of delicious foods for our Christmas Market, to be held on December 3 in Plaza Allende. Our veterinarians and volunteers sterilized 138 animals and entertained children with stories and coloring books at two sterilization campaigns. November 28 was Giving Tuesday. Read more

    Another milestone: we sterilized our 24,000th case in August

    Another milestone: we sterilized our 24,000th case in August

    We registered our 24,000th sterilization case on August 20 at a campaign in the village of Valenciana. In recognition of this important event, we presented an award to a rescued female dog named Vacilic and her guardians. Altogether, we sterilized 147 dogs and cats in August, and two of our regular volunteers received their degrees in veterinary medicine during the month. Read more
