Frequently Asked Questions
Amigos de los Animales does not have a shelter and cannot accept rescued animals; however, we do work with several local organizations who can field these requests. Please read our FAQ below for additional information.
Do you rescue animals?
No, we have no shelter, do not rescue animals, and cannot care for rescued animals. Some veterinary clinics will treat and board rescued animals until they are adopted, but they charge for this service. Learn more about rescue, including resources in Guanajuato, here.
How can I foster a cat or dog?
Post a message on AdoptaGuanajuato or Pet Lovers of Guanajuato, or contact one of the rescue groups in the city, such as Fundación Corazón Animal.
How can I adopt a cat or dog?
If you wish to adopt a dog or cat, several of our volunteers have healthy, sterilized, and socialized rescues available for adoption. Contact us at amigos@amigosanimalesgto.org and we’ll put you in touch with them. You can also check the AdoptaGuanajuato website, visit Clínica Veterinaria Can-Cat , contact Fundación Corazón Animal de Guanajuato, or visit the Centro de Control Animal of Guanajuato at Calle Arboledas S/N, Colonia Arroyo Verde, near the Yerbabuena sportsfield (473-733-4839, ccontrolanimalgto@hotmail.com)
What if I find a dog or cat in need of medical attention?
If you find a dog or cat in need of medical attention and take it to a veterinarian, you will need to pay for its treatment. Amigos will pay for a gravely injured or ill dog or cat to be euthanized if you take it to Clínica Veterinaria Can-Cat.
How can I report an abused or neglected animal?
If you aware of an abused or neglected animal, please immediately report the situation to the Centro de Control Animal, telephone (473) 733-4839, ccontrolanimalgto@hotmail.com. Be as specific as you can: provide the exact address and a detailed description of the mistreatment. Your report should be made in Spanish, and it will be considered confidential. You should contact the Centro de Control Animal again if you do not see an improvement within several days.
