Firecrackers nearly banned in Guanajuato

,

The Guanajuato state legislature has just considered prohibiting firecrackers, but the National Action Party (PAN) voted against the ruling because its representatives want to preserve their use in religious festivals.

During an interview on local television Channel 8’s morning program “Despierta Guanajuato” on December 21, Amigos representative Julia Salido discussed the harm that firecrackers cause to both people and animals. Pets frightened by firecrackers may escape from their homes and become lost or even killed. She urged the audience to support the proposed legislation.

She also advised people with frightened pets to put the animals in safe surroundings, as far away from the noise as possible, during fireworks. For example, she suggested putting cats and small dogs in a travel crate and covering it with blanket, to give the animals a sense of security.
