Sue Parry opened her lovely home to many friends on Boxing Day, a traditional holiday celebrated by the British the day after Christmas. Sue’s parties are always delightful, but this one was exceptional, for it raised $55,000 pesos (approximately $2,706 dollars) for Amigos de los Animales de Guanajuato.
The donation will be used to help us buy a new van for our sterilization campaigns. Niña, as our 25-year-old Ford Windstar van is affectionately called, is pleading with us to let her retire. She refused to start on December 22 when we needed her to transport our equipment to the last campaign of the year. Fortunately, Julia Salido’s mechanic was able to coax her into action, but this was a sign that Niña is serious.
Sue and her friends spent days preparing for the party, making delicious botanas and desserts, collecting the prizes, and organizing the raffle and auction. Among those who deserve special mention were Margo Buschek, Celise Ingram, Juan Jesús Vargas, and Roy Zuloaga. Jorge Preza performed music at the event.
We are also grateful to the prize donors. They included Peggy and Vaughan Ball, Martine Bilodeau, Craig Byrd, Sergio González and his group Ensamble Fenix, Liz Mapelli, Carolyn Napoli, Sue Parry, Terri Rasmussen, Tom Settel, Joshua Schwartz, and Joel Villalon.
For their generous support for Amigos we thank all of them, everyone who brought food and drinks, and everyone who bid during the auction and bought raffle tickets. But we are especially grateful to Sue for her extraordinary dedication to our organization and its mission.
