Niña, our model 2000 Ford Windstar van, is now 24 years old and has nearly 197,000 miles (477,873 kilometers) on her odometer. She’s critical to our work, as we use her to transport all our equipment and supplies to our sterilization campaigns twice a month. She has taken a beating on some terrible roads. We’ve kept her going for nine years—one of our members calls her an institution—but it’s time for our beloved vehicle to retire. Her back door and passenger window are frozen in the closed position, making loading and unloading difficult, not to mention the heat inside on a hot day.
