At a mini-campaign on Sunday, March 12, we sterilized 11 female dogs, 8 male dogs, 1 female cat, and 5 male cats at a house in Valle de San José, a subdivision on the outskirts of the city. Performing the surgeries were Dr. Ricardo Montes de Oca and two advanced students of veterinary medicine, Abril Herrera and Laura Uvalle. Abril and Laura, who have frequently volunteered at our campaigns while pursuing their degrees at the University of Guanajuato, will shortly receive their doctorates.
Two of our other regular volunteers, Karla Ahumada and Carlos Donato, who are also studying to become veterinarians, assisted at the campaign. Karla oversaw the recovery unit, and Carlos assisted with external suturing some of the patients. We are very proud of and grateful to all four students.
We are grateful, too, to our campaign coordinator, Julia Salido, and to the volunteers who helped with registration, preparing the animals for surgery, attending them in the recovery unit, and keeping the clinic area clean. They were Fran Espinoza, Lupita Loza, Vero Mares, Adán Mata López, and Dulce Sandoval.
